I was raised in Florida, the unacclaimed South, where sweet tea, football and beaches reign. Unofficially, I've included lemonade into the mix. This week's cocktail, a blend of homemade lemonade and tamarind--a homage to my Caribbean roots--combines fresh lemon juice, cane sugar and water with Essie Spice's Tamrind-OH!, to make a porch-rocker-appropriate libation that'll satisfy both sweet and tangy cravings. Not a drinker? Omit the white rum, for a non-alcohol version.
Spiked Tamarind Lemonade
- 1 1/2 oz. white rum (I used Bacardi)
- 1/4 cup fresh lemonade*
- 2 tablespoons Essie Spices' Tamarind-OH! sauce
Glassware: Rocks glass
Garnish: Lemon slice
How to mix this drink:
Combine rum, lemonade and sauce in a cocktail shaker over ice and shake well. Pour into a rocks glass filled with ice and garnish with a lemon slice.
* Fresh Lemonade
1 cup water
1/2 cup of organic raw sugar
Juice of five lemons
